Course Description
This course is designed to offer the practicing orthopaedic surgeon with information regarding the latest technology available in Orthopaedic Trauma. It is the expressed goal of this course to provide enough material so that at the end of the course, the participant can make educated decisions as to superiority of design and ease of use of implants specific for certain fracture patterns, as well as developing an understanding as to the benefits and limitations of orthobiologics. The participant will be able to practice in a lab setting methods of solving various orthopaedic problems with various implants. There will be ample time for discussion and questions and answers.
Target Audience
Orthopaedic surgeons, fellows, residents, physician assistants, physical therapists, surgical assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, industry professionals and other healthcare professionals whose scope of practice includes orthopaedic trauma.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should gain competency in
• Applying new concepts to bone plating, intramedullary nailing of fractures about the upper arm, elbow and wrist;
• Applying new concepts in managing fractures about the proximal humerus and shoulder, both restorative, salvage and
replacement therapies;
• Applying new concepts in managing fractures about the elbow and wrist, both restorative, salvage and replacement therapies;
• Analyzing treatment of fractures specific to the proximal femur and hip using nails and plates;
• Understanding special technical issues in reverse obliquity fractures in the hip;
• Discussing biomechanics of plate fixation, locked plates, IM Nailing as they relate to fractures in the knee;
• Working with new treatment technologies as they relate to orthobiologics and fractures about the knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, elbow and wrist.
Accreditation
Physicians: The Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education (FORE) is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. FORE designates this educational activity for a maximum of 20.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Physician Assistants: The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
Nursing Credit: For the purpose of re-certification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
