Job Summary
The primary job responsibility of the Surgical Tech is to provide technical support to ensure workshops operate as smoothly and as efficiently as possible. This includes interacting with physicians, industry personnel and researchers during workshops, setting up the lab for workshops with the necessary lab equipment, receiving and preparing specimens, proper positioning and draping of specimens, assisting customers and Lab Manager during workshops, proper repacking and storage of specimens, and cleaning of lab facility, equipment and instrumentation. Surgical Technician reports directly to the Lab Manager.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepares anatomical specimens utilized for teaching and demonstration, including pro-section of cadavers, passing and holding surgical instruments during trainings.
- Provides support by maintaining cleanliness of surgical/ preparatory rooms, and maintains inventory by keeping preparatory room stocked with essential supplies.
- Provides support to the Lab Manager by maintaining department records and files.
- Ensures correct storage and care of lab specimens; assisting faculty and staff in the set-up of specimens and equipment used during sessions offered in the facility.
- Prepares all necessary cleaning solutions used in the surgical lab and ensures equipment and lab space is maintained in good working order.
- Ensures proper disposal of biohazard material.
- Ensures proper decontamination of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Must have flexible schedule adaptable to constant change and be able to work nights and weekends.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs and be able to stand long periods of time.
- Professional ethics and demeanor as well as excellent customer service.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students.
- Good computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
- Speak English clearly and fluently
- Comfortable interacting with physicians, industry personnel and researchers
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma, Surgical Technology School (Certified Surgical Technician preferred)
- Experience: Surgical and/or operating room experience (Orthopaedics preferred)

Clinical Research Internship

Description
- Reports to assigned Clinical Research Manager
- Assists in ordering patient medical records and radiographs
- Generates copies of necessary research forms
- Collates packets for patient/subject dissemination
- Extracts relevant medical information from patient medical records
- Data entry into appropriate databases
- Translates raw data into tables & diagrams for publication
- Assist with photographing/digitally recording of research subjects in clinic and/or surgery
- Assist with the production of dynamic PowerPoint & poster presentations
- Additional tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Available 15 - 25 hours per week

- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power-point, Excel, and Access
- High School Diploma required
- BA or BS degree in progress (Biology or similar science-related major preferred, minimum 2.7 GPA)
Continuing Medical Education Internship

Description
- Reports to Director of Continuing Medical Education
- Assists in phone registrations for courses
- Processes course registrations, which are received by fax, mail, phone and online
- Assists in creating and proofing professional course mailers and educational materials
- Assists in creating professional documents to distribute at each course including welcome letter, evaluation tool, handouts etc.
- Organizes general supply orders for courses and for the Foundation
- Assists with updating course website
- Assists with mass emails to potential course registrants
- Additional tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Available 15 - 25 hours per week

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including word, power-point, and excel
- High School Diploma required
- BA or BS degree in progress (Communication or Business [Management, Marketing] major preferred, minimum 2.7 GPA)
