Course Description

This is a two and a half day CME symposium and surgical skills training that focuses on comprehensive diagnosis, management and surgical treatment of orthopaedic diseases involving the foot and ankle. Through the unique expertise of distinguished physician experts from both orthopaedic and podiatric disciplines, this course will deliver up-to-date information in the areas of foot fractures, forefoot injuries and complications, reconstructions, deformity corrections, ankle arthritis, and soft tissue repairs. The course format consists of lectures, interactive panel discussions with audience, difficult case controversies and hands-on surgical approach and technique training in a cadaver lab setting. The lab training will place a special focus on the following topics: Brostrom lateral ligament repair, Achilles tendon repair, syndesmotic repair, Jones fractures, lapidus, hallux varus correction, Weil osteotomy & hammertoe, 1st MTPI fusion, Achilles debridement & FHL transfer, lateral column lengthening & calcaneal slide, ORIF calcaneus, talus fracture, Lisfranc stablilization, and subtalar fusion.

Target Audience

General Orthopaedic Surgeons with an interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery, Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeons, Doctors of Podiatric Medicine, Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Fellows, Orthopaedic Surgery or Podiatric Medicine Residents, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and any other healthcare professional whose scope of practice includes foot and ankle surgery.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in management of complex flat foot deformity;
  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in salvage and revision of deformities in the foot & ankle;
  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in management of sports and tendon injuries in the foot and ankle;
  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in management of the cavus foot and charcot arthropathy in the foot & ankle;
  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in management of arthritis and oncology in the foot and ankle;
  • Understand and apply principles and surgical techniques in management of deformity of the forefoot;
  • Understand and better perform surgical approaches facilitating access to the foot and ankle.
